The AuroraX plug-in window: the Space display shows delay repeats as cyan bars under a purple reverb decay, with the Delay section (its Type menu on Tape), Reverb, Stretch and Output sections and a level meter below

Five delay types feeding a modulated reverb, shimmer that shifts again on every pass of the reverb loop, a Freeze that holds the tail without dulling it, and a spectral Stretch that slows what you play by up to 100×.

Features

Three effects, one space.

The echoes, the reverb and the Stretch layer each have their own Mix and add up to the wet signal. The reverb hears the echoes, and Stretch hears both.

  • 01

    Five delay types

Tape, Analog, Multi-Tap, Reverse and Diffuse, up to 2 s or synced from 1/64 to 1/1 with dotted and triplet values. Feedback up to 95 % saturates gently as the repeats build, and Low Cut and High Cut in the loop make each repeat thinner or darker.

  • 02

    Modulated reverb

Size, Decay from 0.2 to 30 s, Pre-Delay up to 250 ms and Damping. The reverb is fed by your input and the echoes, and Drift keeps long tails slowly moving.

  • 03

    Shimmer

Pitch shifting inside the reverb loop, so every pass shifts again. Choose +7, +12, +19 or +24 semitones, or −12 to go down.

  • 04

    Freeze

Holds whatever the reverb contains, without decaying or dulling. Anything you play from about 0.4 s after pressing it stays out of the held sound, but still goes through the delay and Stretch.

  • 05

    Spectral Stretch

Takes what you play, plus the echoes and the reverb, and plays it up to 100× slower as a smooth spectral smear, drawn from the last 8.2 seconds.

  • 06

    Ducking and mix

Duck dips the whole wet signal while you play and lets it bloom back in the gaps. Dry/Wet is equal-power, and Mix Lock keeps it while you browse presets.

Deep dive

Made to be played.

Ranges below are the controls' own. Figures marked as measured come from AuroraX's DSP verification suite. The displays are animated illustrations; the crops are the real plug-in.

01 — The Space display

See the space you're building.

Every delay repeat is a bar, alternating colours with Ping-Pong; Multi-Tap shows its taps, Reverse draws each reversed repeat as a swell and Diffuse draws each repeat as a smear. The reverb decay is a line falling to −60 dB. A dashed line shows how much faster the highs fade with damping, a pink band along the floor shows the Stretch layer, and the fill brightens with the live wet signal. When you freeze, the decay holds flat and a Frozen tag appears.

02 — Delay and ducking

Echoes that lock to the tempo, and step aside when you play.

Set a time up to 2 s, or sync to the host tempo with straight, dotted and triplet divisions from 1/64 to 1/1. Ping-Pong sums the input to mono and bounces the repeats left and right. Duck pulls the whole wet signal down while you play and lets it bloom back in the gaps.

03 — Delay types

Five delays, one menu.

Pick the type from the menu next to the Delay title. Switching while you play crossfades smoothly, and Feedback, Warmth, the filters, Sync and Ping-Pong work with every type.

  • Tapethe classic AuroraX delay, wow and flutter
  • Analogbucket-brigade, every repeat darker
  • Multi-Taptaps at 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and the full time
  • Reversewhat you play comes back backwards
  • Diffuseeach repeat smears into a cloud
  • Low Cut / High CutOff–2 kHz / 500 Hz–Off, 12 dB/oct

Low Cut and High Cut filter the echoes and sit inside the feedback loop: the first echo is filtered once and every repeat once more, so the repeats get thinner or darker as they fade. For dub-style echoes, raise Feedback and bring High Cut down to 2–3 kHz and Low Cut up to 300–400 Hz.

In the plug-in · Multi-Tap, Low Cut 200 Hz, High Cut 4 kHz
04 — Stretch

Eight seconds of memory, slowed up to 100×.

Stretch takes what you play, plus the echoes and the reverb, and plays it up to 100 times slower as a smooth spectral smear. It remembers the last 8.2 seconds, so high Amounts drift slowly through a short slice of what you played, and 16×, 32×, 64× and 100× each move at their own pace. After a silence it picks up the first notes you play within about 0.13 seconds.

  • Amount1×–100×, default 8×
  • Historythe last 8.2 s (8.9 s at 44.1 kHz)
  • Ratio from 1.5× to 100×, measuredwithin ±0.7 %
  • New notes after silence, measured126 ms
  • At 1×smears without slowing down
05 — Freeze and Shimmer

Hold a chord, or let it climb.

Freeze holds whatever the reverb contains at that moment, without decaying or dulling, while you play over it. Shimmer shifts the pitch inside the reverb loop, so each pass shifts again: up a fifth, an octave, an octave and a fifth or two octaves, or down an octave.

  • Freeze hold after 10 s, measuredwithin 0.1 dB

Workflow

Quick to drive, by mouse or keyboard.

AuroraX shares its header, preset browser and controls with PrismX, so both plug-ins work the same way.

FAQ

Questions.

When can I buy AuroraX?

It isn't on sale yet: AuroraX is in testing. Leave your email on the notify form and we'll tell you when it launches.

How much will it cost?

$59

One-time purchase · VST3, AU, AAX

Is there a Windows version?

Yes. AuroraX runs on 64-bit Windows 10 and 11 as a VST3, and on macOS as VST3 and AU.

Which DAWs can I use it in?

On macOS, any host that loads AU or VST3 plug-ins, such as Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Reaper, Cubase, Bitwig or Studio One. On Windows, any host that loads VST3 plug-ins, such as Ableton Live, Reaper, Cubase, FL Studio, Bitwig or Studio One.

Does AuroraX add latency?

No. AuroraX reports zero latency: Stretch is a wet layer, not a delay of your signal.

Will long tails get cut off when I bounce?

Only past 30 seconds. AuroraX reports a tail of up to 30 seconds to your DAW, so bounces keep their decay for that long. With Freeze on, the reported tail is 30 seconds, so a longer hold can still be cut off.

Can I control it from a MIDI controller?

Yes, through your DAW's own controller mapping, such as Logic's Learn Assignment or Live's MIDI Map Mode. Every sound control is an automatable parameter. There's no built-in MIDI learn, because an effect that takes MIDI has to register as a different kind of plug-in in Logic, which would break existing sessions.

Does it need an internet connection or an account?

No. AuroraX makes no network connections, has no account and collects nothing. Presets and favourites stay on your computer. See the privacy policy.

Does it run natively on Apple Silicon?

Yes. AuroraX is a universal binary. It needs macOS 11 or later on Apple Silicon, or macOS 10.13 or later on an Intel Mac.
